MVVF’s seminar “The FDA and Medical Device Regulation”

BOSTON, Massachusetts—April 8, 2010—Annette Vaughan, Principal at Stonebridge Associates, will serve as a panelist at the Merrimack Valley Venture Forum’s breakfast seminar “The FDA and Medical Device Regulation: How the Changes Underway Impact Your Business.” The briefing will take place from 7:30–9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 16 at the Holiday Inn in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

Designed for medical device manufacturers, regulatory professionals, and marketing professionals, this briefing will provide up-to-date information on potential changes to the medical device regulatory framework, expected timing, and what is motivating regulatory agencies to adopt these changes. The seminar will also explore how early-stage medical device companies may need to alter their business and financing strategies as a result.

Congress and the FDA are currently reviewing the medical device regulation process, with a particular focus on the 510(k) path and its “substantial equivalence” paradigm, which is currently utilized to gain approval for most new devices. With these concepts under review, medical device manufacturers are evaluating how changes may affect how devices are brought to market. This seminar will examine the legislative actions behind these proposed changes and provide insights into how companies can adjust to the new regulatory environment.
